Kunisaki, Oita / 両子寺
Futago-ji Temple
A temple of the Rokugo Manzan in the centre of the Kunisaki Peninsula, founded in 718 (Yoro 2) by Ninmon Bosatsu; from the Edo period it oversaw the Manzan temples. The pair of Nio guardian statues at the gate are the largest in Kunisaki and said to represent the peninsula for the beauty of their carving. With a great many maples across the grounds, it is one of the prefecture's leading spots for fresh spring green and autumn leaves.
