Bungotakada, Oita / 富貴寺
Fuki-ji Temple
A temple founded in the Heian period as the family temple of the chief priest of Usa Jingu. Its Great Hall, a National Treasure, is one of Japan's three Amida halls with the Phoenix Hall of Byodo-in in Uji and the Konjikido of Chuson-ji in Hiraizumi, and the oldest surviving wooden building in Kyushu. The Amida Buddha inside is an Important Cultural Property, and the wall painting of the Pure Land is counted among Japan's four great wall paintings. The grounds are covered in autumn leaves from late November to early December.
