Ibusuki, Kagoshima / 知林ヶ島
Chiringashima Island
An uninhabited island about 3 km around, some 800 m offshore from Cape Tara northeast of central Ibusuki. At low tide a sandbar appears, and at spring tides, when low tide lasts long, you can walk across. It is said to be named after the old pines whose sound in the wind guided passing sailing ships at night. From March to October, a "sand road" appears at low tide during spring and middle tides.
