Yonago, Tottori / 米子水鳥公園
Yonago Waterbird Sanctuary
Nakaumi, where the park lies, has recorded 42% of the wild bird species observed in Japan, making it one of the finest bird habitats in San'in. About 1,000 tundra swans winter here every year; to see them, evening is best, when they return to roost after feeding. You can watch ducks and herons and national natural monuments such as the greater white-fronted goose and white-tailed eagle, and in summer waterbirds raising their young.
