Oguni, Kumamoto / 杖立温泉
Tsuetate Onsen
A hot spring town full of history where steam rises, loved since ancient times as a place for cures. Using the water's high temperature (about 98°C at the source) and abundant flow, steam baths and steaming spots dot the town, and June 4 is registered as "Tsuetate Onsen Steam Bath Day"; the back lanes called "sedoya" are popular for walks. In April about 3,500 carp streamers fly over the Tsuetate River.
