Tofuku-ji Temple
Head temple of the Rinzai Tofuku-ji school and one of Kyoto's Five Great Zen Temples, whose seven main buildings were completed in 1255 (Kencho 7). The Sanmon gate (National Treasure) is the oldest of its kind from the Muromachi period, and buildings such as the bathhouse, latrine and meditation hall show the life of Zen monks. The Tsutenkyo bridge is famous for autumn leaves, and the gardens of the Honbo (abbot's quarters) are four dry landscape gardens by Shigemori Mirei.
