The head shrine of some 30,000 Inari shrines in Japan, founded in 711; the Oyama-meguri pilgrimage around sacred Mt. Inari, about 4 km and 2 hours, passes through tunnels of vermilion torii, about 10,000 of which line the paths.

The roads around the car park get very crowded, so public transport is requested; parking for purposes other than worship is refused. The grounds car park is closed from December 30 to January 6.
