Izumo, Shimane / 須佐神社
Susa Shrine
An old shrine that appears in the "Izumo no Kuni Fudoki", beside the Susa River, a tributary of the Kando River. According to the Fudoki, Susanoo came here, named the land "Susa" and settled his spirit; it is the only shrine enshrining his spirit, together with his wife Inatahime and her parents. The main hall, built in 1861 in Taisha style, is a prefectural cultural property, and behind it stands a great cedar estimated at 1,300 years old, about 6 m around and over 24 m tall.
