Shibu Onsen

A hot spring town where rows of historic wooden buildings line the streets. You can stroll the stone-paved lanes, compare hot spring buns from old confectioners, and try a traditional shooting gallery and a free table-tennis room. The nine public baths (soto-yu) that the community has long looked after are open to hotel guests for bath-hopping, and there are two free footbaths.

Getting there: About 20 minutes by car from Shinshu-Nakano IC on the Joshin-etsu Expressway. By Nagano Electric Railway limited express from Nagano Station to Yudanaka Station (about 50 minutes), then about 5 minutes by taxi or about 7 minutes by bus bound for Kambayashi to "Shibu Onsen Iriguchi" or "Shibu Onsen Wagobashi", then 1 minute on foot.
