Munakata, Fukuoka / 宗像大社 辺津宮
Munakata Taisha Hetsu-miya
One of Japan's oldest shrines, appearing in Japanese myth. The three goddesses are enshrined at Okitsu-miya on Okinoshima, Nakatsu-miya on Oshima and Hetsu-miya on the mainland, together called Munakata Taisha; the main hall and worship hall of Hetsu-miya are Important Cultural Properties. The "Shinpokan" treasure hall shows about 80,000 National Treasures excavated from Okinoshima, such as mirrors, magatama and gold rings. It was registered as a World Cultural Heritage site in July 2017.
