Mt. Wakakusa

A gentle 342 m hill covered in lawn, also called Mt. Mikasa for its three rounded tiers, with views over the Great Buddha Hall and Nara Park; its night view was chosen as one of Japan's three new great night views, and the grass is burned every early spring.

Getting there

Nara Kotsu bus (city loop, outer) from JR or Kintetsu Nara Station to Todaiji Daibutsuden/Kasuga Taisha-mae or Kasuga Taisha Omotesando, then about 15 minutes on foot to the foot of the hill.

No parking at the foot (use the prefectural Daibutsu-mae or Takabatake car parks); by car, take the toll Shin-Wakakusayama Driveway to the free summit car park and walk 5 minutes.
