Takashima, Shiga / メタセコイア並木
Metasequoia Tree-lined Road
About 500 metasequoia trees line the roads for 2.4 km as the approach to the Makino Highlands. The trees were first planted in 1981 by the Makino fruit growers' association as part of a children's farm project, and have been cared for by local people and extended along the prefectural road into today's grand avenue. Metasequoia, native to China, is a tall deciduous tree growing up to 35 m.
