Kirishima, Kagoshima / 丸尾滝
Maruo Falls
A magnificent waterfall 23 m high and 16 m wide beside Route 223 from Maruo Onsen towards Kirishima Shrine. It is a rare "hot-water waterfall" formed from the spring water of nearby Einoo and Iodani hot springs: in autumn the spray shines against the autumn leaves, and in winter steam rises from the falls. The milky-blue water has a unique atmosphere, and when lit up at night the spray reflects the lights.
