Matsue, Shimane / 宍道湖
Lake Shinji
The 7th biggest lake in Japan, a brackish lake where fresh and sea water mix, and a Ramsar-listed site. Its ever-changing sunset views are the symbol of the water city Matsue; the lakeshore from Shirakata Park to Route 9 is recommended for watching the sunset. The lake is also known for the "seven delicacies of Lake Shinji", and the early-morning shijimi clam fishing from small boats is a morning feature.
