Matsue, Shimane / 松江大橋
Matsue Ohashi Bridge
The bridge with the oldest history over the Ohashi River, which flows from Lake Shinji to Nakaumi. A sad legend of Gensuke, said to have been made a human pillar when the first bridge was built in 1608, has been handed down, and a memorial stands at the foot of the bridge; the story is also why people in Matsue drink tea twice. The bridge appears in Lafcadio Hearn's "Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan".
