Kuratake Shrine

Kuratake (682 m), the highest peak of the Amakusa Islands, has been revered as a sacred mountain since ancient times, and Kuratake Shrine at its summit was built to pray for safety in fishing. Below lie the calm Shiranui Sea (Yatsushiro Sea), the islands of Goshonoura and fishing villages, and on the other side you can see across the Ariake Sea to Unzen.
