Sunday Market (Kochi)
A street market held every Sunday for 300 years since the Edo period, one of Japan's largest "aozora-ichi" (outdoor markets). About 300 stalls line about 1 km of Otesuji, the avenue leading to Kochi Castle, selling fresh local vegetables and fruit, handmade inaka-zushi (country sushi), imo-ten (sweet-potato tempura) and other Kochi specialities. Kochi City also holds street markets at other places on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
