Chizu, Tottori / 板井原集落
Itaibara Village
One of the few villages in Japan that keeps the form of a mountain village of the 1950s and 60s. It prospered with farming and charcoal making in the Edo period and sericulture in the Meiji period, and was selected as a Tottori Prefecture Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 2004. An old-house cafe serving Chizu ingredients opened in 2020, and it is also popular for autumn leaves.
