Ishin Furusato-kan (Museum of the Meiji Restoration)
A history facility that shows the whole of late-Edo Satsuma and the Meiji Restoration at a glance, in Kajiyacho, the birthplace of Saigo Takamori and Okubo Toshimichi. Videos, dioramas and robots introduce Kagoshima's history and its pioneers; the highlights are two dramas in the basement hall, "The Road to the Restoration", with life-size robots and multiple screens, and "Satsuma Students, West", about students the Satsuma domain sent to Britain in defiance of the national ban.
