Amarube Viaduct "Sora no Eki"

The Amarube Viaduct once supported the JR San'in Line for about 100 years and was at one time the highest in Japan. It was replaced in 2010, but three piers on the JR Amarube Station side were kept, and in 2013 part of the old track became "Sora no Eki", an observation deck 40 m above the ground. From it you can look over the Sea of Japan and see trains crossing the new bridge, and touch the rails and sleepers once in use. The all-glass lift "Amarube Crystal Tower" takes about 45 seconds and is lit up at night. The roadside station "Amarube" is at the foot.
