Zakimi Castle Ruins
A castle built on a 127 m hill overlooking the west coast in the early 15th century; Gosamaru, lord of Yamada Castle 4 km to the northeast, is said to have had it built with stones carried from Yamada Castle, which he demolished. With a main and second enclosure, 365 m around and 7,386 m² in area, it is medium-sized for Okinawa; its walls are mainly "aikata-zumi" masonry of Ryukyu limestone, with "nuno-zumi" around the arch gate. It was registered as a World Heritage site in December 2000.
