Shirakawa, Gifu / 国指定重要文化財 和田家
Wada House
The largest gassho-zukuri house in Ogimachi and a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. The family served as village headmen and checkpoint officials in the Edo period and prospered through the trade in saltpetre. It is still lived in, with the first and second floors open to visitors, showing an irori hearth room, a Buddhist altar room, old tools and red lacquer tableware used at weddings.
