Togetsukyo Bridge
The bridge over the Katsura River between Sagano and Arashiyama, first built by the priest Dosho in the Jowa era (834-848); the present bridge was completed in June 1934 (Showa 9). It was named when Retired Emperor Kameyama, watching the moon move across the sky above it, remarked that it seemed to be "crossing" the bridge. Arashiyama's signature sight, crowded with visitors mainly in spring and autumn.
