Tenryu-ji Temple
Head temple of the Tenryu-ji branch of Rinzai Zen, founded in 1339 by Ashikaga Takauji for Emperor Go-Daigo with Muso Soseki; its Sogenchi pond garden borrowing the Arashiyama scenery was Japan's first designated Special Place of Scenic Beauty. Part of the World Heritage site.
