Izu, Shizuoka / 修禅寺
Shuzen-ji Temple
A temple at the heart of Shuzenji Onsen, said to have been founded by Kukai (Kobo Daishi) in 807; the Kamakura shogun Minamoto no Yoriie was confined here, and its main image was donated by his mother Hojo Masako. Autumn leaves colour the grounds.
