Matsumoto, Nagano / 白骨温泉

Shirahone Onsen

A hot spring village on the eastern slopes of the Northern Alps and Mt. Norikura, said to have been flowing already in the Kamakura period and to have a history of over 600 years. Its water turns milky white on contact with the air. Milky hot springs are usually strongly acidic, but Shirahone is neutral (weakly acidic), with a sulphur scent and a high carbonic content. It lies in Chubu-Sangaku National Park and is designated a National Health Resort Hot Spring.
