Sengan-en Garden
A villa of the Shimazu family built in 1658 by Mitsuhisa, the 19th head, a large garden that uses majestic Sakurajima as its artificial hill and Kinko Bay as its pond. Flowers bloom through the seasons across about 15,000 tsubo, with sights such as the "Crane Lantern" used in gas-lamp experiments and a shrine to cats. The Iso area around it was registered in 2015 as part of the World Cultural Heritage "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution".
