Okayama Castle (Ujo)
A castle built by Ukita Hideie, a retainer of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and one of his five great elders. Its three-roofed, six-storey keep on an unusual irregular pentagonal base, with black clapboard walls, is also called "Ujo" (Crow Castle); from the top floor you look down on the Asahi River and over Korakuen Garden and the city. The original keep burned in air raids in 1945 and has been rebuilt; after the great Reiwa renovation it reopened on November 3, 2022 with exhibits supervised by historian Isoda Michifumi.
