Oyamazaki, Kyoto / 妙喜庵（国宝「待庵」）
Myokian (National Treasure Tai-an Tea Room)
A small tea room said to have been built by Sen no Rikyu while he lived in Oyamazaki, when Hashiba (Toyotomi) Hideyoshi summoned him from Sakai during the building of Yamazaki Castle. It has a gabled shingle roof and an unusual low window, and inside is a tiny two-tatami space with a hearth in the corner and a distinctive "murodoko" alcove; it is said to be the origin of Japan's sukiya architecture.
