Byodo-in Temple, Uji

A temple on the west bank of the Uji River: a villa acquired by Fujiwara no Michinaga was turned into a temple by his son Yorimichi. The Phoenix Hall (a National Treasure) on the Aji-ike pond is the design on the 10-yen coin, and the Hoshokan museum shows National Treasures such as the phoenixes, the Bodhisattvas on Clouds and the temple bell.
