Miyazaki-jingu Shrine
A shrine enshrining Emperor Jimmu, the first emperor of Japan, said to have been founded by his grandson Takeiwatatsu-no-Mikoto; his parents are enshrined here as well. The approach lit by lanterns has a mysterious atmosphere. The present buildings, built in 1907 (Meiji 40), use Sano cedar, a fine timber of Hyuga, which is rare in Japan. The shrine festival known as "Jimmu-sama" is known for its sacred procession, and events such as horseback archery are held through the year.
