Kitakyushu, Fukuoka / 小倉城
Kokura Castle
A castle whose keep has a "karazukuri" exterior, simple yet bold. It was founded by Hosokawa Tadaoki, and from Kan'ei 9 was the seat of the Ogasawara clan for about 230 years until Meiji; it burned in 1866, and the present castle was rebuilt in 1959. The 1st floor has a large-screen theatre, the 2nd and 3rd floors show Kokura's history, and the 5th floor has a view over the city.
