Rokuon-ji (Kinkaku-ji, Golden Pavilion)

A Rinzai Zen temple built by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in 1397; the three-storey Golden Pavilion, burned in 1950 and rebuilt in 1955, stands by the Kyoko-chi pond in a Special Place of Scenic Beauty. Part of the World Heritage site.

Accessibility

You can reach the side of the Golden Pavilion without major steps, but there are stairs beyond it, so wheelchairs and pushchairs must turn back (the 600-year-old garden has no barrier-free route). Wheelchairs are lent without reservation, and there is a multipurpose toilet.
