Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi / 関門橋
Kanmon Bridge
A 1,068 m suspension bridge across the Kanmon Straits linking Honshu and Kyushu, the longest in the East when it opened in 1973. You can enjoy it from many angles: looking up from the Mekari promenade on the Kyushu side, from observation decks, or passing under the lit-up bridge on a night cruise. As an expressway it cannot be crossed on foot, but the Mekari parking area on the Kyushu side can be reached on foot.
