Fukui, Fukui / 一乗谷朝倉氏遺跡
Ichijodani Asakura Family Historic Ruins
The remains of a castle town about 10 km southeast of Fukui city, from which five generations of the Asakura clan ruled Echizen for about 100 years in the Sengoku period. Samurai houses, temples, townhouses, craftsmen's houses and even roads were excavated almost intact. The site is a national Special Historic Site and Special Place of Scenic Beauty, and the finds are Important Cultural Properties; part of the townscape has been reconstructed.
