Yakushima, Kagoshima / 平内海中温泉
Hirauchi Kaichu Onsen
A rare hot spring that wells up from the sea, where you can bathe only for about 2 hours around low tide, twice a day. The water is simple sulphur. By day you look at the sea, and at night you bathe to the sound of the waves under a sky full of stars. There is no changing room, and bathing in a swimsuit or underwear is strictly forbidden.
