Opening hours

First car 10:00. April 20 - September 30: last up 21:30, last down 22:00; October 1 - April 19: last up 20:30, last down 21:00. Every 15 min (on the hour, :15, :30, :45), every 5-10 min when busy; the ride takes about 3 min. Boarding closes 1 min before departure. On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, service starts at 14:00 for maintenance (last up 20:30, last down 21:00).

Admission

Return / one-way: adults (junior high and above) 1,800 / 1,200 yen, children 900 / 600 yen. Groups of 15+: adults 1,650 / 1,100, children 850 / 550. Disability fare (with a certificate; also for one adult companion): adults 1,000 / 700, children 500 / 350. Free for ages 0-2; one preschooler aged 3+ free per adult.

Getting there

About 10 min by car or taxi, or 25 min by streetcar, from Hakodate Station; about 30 min by car from Hakodate Airport. Buses: Motomachi Bay Area loop (adults 250 yen); at night a shuttle bus (250 or 280 yen); to the summit, the Mt. Hakodate bus (700 yen one way). Private and rental cars cannot drive up during restricted hours (16:00-21:00 from October 1 to November 8, 2026; cars that drove up earlier must be back down before it starts), and the road is closed in winter from 11:00 on November 9, 2026 to 11:00 on April 12, 2027 (planned). Parking

The ropeway has no car park of its own and no partner car parks. Nearby car parks (Hakodateyama Sanroku: city 47 and private 39 spaces; Motomachi: 41 and 52) cost 300 yen for the first hour, then 150 yen per 30 min; no queuing at the entrance. Many coin car parks take no large notes or cashless payment, so bring coins. The summit car park is free (not usable during restricted hours).

Accessibility

Lifts at both stations let wheelchair users board the gondola directly (staff assist). Nursing rooms (base 3F, summit 1F), accessible toilets (base 1F, summit 2F) and free loan wheelchairs (limited).

For the night view, about 1 hour after it gets dark is relatively calm. Isaribi Park, just left of the summit station, is usually less crowded.
