Mine, Yamaguchi / 秋吉台
Akiyoshidai Plateau
One of the largest karst plateaus in Japan, where white limestone pokes out of grassland as far as the eye can see, like a flock of sheep; it is one of Japan's three great karsts. Under the plateau lie many huge limestone caves, including Akiyoshido. Mine Akiyoshidai Geopark has been certified as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Green in summer and silver grass shining in the autumn sunset make superb views; you can drive the Karst Road or trek Mt. Kanmuri and Choja-ga-mori.
