Tanesashi Coast
A national Place of Scenic Beauty inside Sanriku Fukko National Park, where over 650 kinds of plants grow. Walking the seaside path you see flowers, natural lawns, strange rocks, 100-year-old pines and black-tailed gulls. The long coast has four areas: Kabushima in the north, where many gulls come to breed from March to August each year; the Ashigezaki Observatory and Osuka Coast area, with Samekado Lighthouse, flowers on the Nakasuka rocks from mid-June to mid-July, and the "singing sand" of Osuka beach; the Tanesashi natural lawn area, where grass runs right down to the waves; and Okuki, with a thatched fishermen's hut and Itsukushima Shrine. The one-coin "Umineko" bus runs along the coast.

By car, about 35 minutes from Hachinohe Station or about 10 minutes from Tanesashi-kaigan Hashikamidake IC (Hachinohe-Kuji Expressway). By train, JR Hachinohe Line local for Kuji from Hachinohe, about 36 minutes to Okuki Station, then about 7 minutes on foot.
