Tamaudun Royal Mausoleum
The mausoleum of the kings of the Second Sho Dynasty, said to have been built around 1501 by the third king, Sho Shin. Surrounded by stone walls, three connected chambers are cut into a natural cliff; the exterior imitates a wooden building, and stone lions guarding the tomb stand on the towers at each side. It was registered as a World Heritage site in December 2000 and designated a National Treasure in December 2018, the first building in Okinawa to be so designated.
