Takamatsu Park (Takamatsu Pond)
Takamatsu Pond is one of four embankments built from the 1660s for flood control in Morioka, once called "Ueda no Tsutsumi". With a full water area of 10.5 ha, it is listed among the "100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan", and is a place to relax in all seasons, with boats in summer, autumn leaves and swans in winter. The rose garden has over 40 varieties (best around mid-June) and the peony garden over 200 peonies and herbaceous peonies (mid- to late May); both are free with no time limit.
