Ishiwari-zakura (Rock-splitting Cherry Tree)
In front of the Morioka District Court, an Edo higan cherry grows out of a crack in a huge granite boulder 21 m around. The tree has a root girth of 4.3 m, is 10 m tall and is said to be over 360 years old; it blooms every year from mid-April, and is lovely both by day and at night. It was designated a national Natural Monument in 1923.
