Tachikawa, Tokyo / 国営昭和記念公園
Showa Kinen Park
A national government park of 180 hectares on the edge of Tachikawa, with children's play areas, flower fields, cycling paths and boats, plus outdoor fitness sessions and nature photography classes. It opened in 1983 to mark 50 years of the reign of Emperor Showa; the land was originally a military base in the imperial era and then a US military base during the occupation after the Second World War.
