Isehara, Kanagawa / 大山阿夫利神社
Oyama Afuri Shrine
A shrine said to have been founded over 2,200 years ago, known as an object of mountain worship. It was revered by Minamoto no Yoritomo and later warrior families, and in the Edo period "Oyama pilgrimages" by ordinary people spread; this is recognised as Japan Heritage. The main shrine is on the summit and the lower shrine halfway up, reachable by cable car; the view from the shrine earned two stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan in 2015.
