Okinawa Peace Memorial Park
A park in Mabuni, Itoman, the scene of the last ground battle of World War II and the fiercest fighting of the Battle of Okinawa. In about 40 ha of grounds overlooking the blue sea, cemeteries, memorial towers and monuments, a museum of materials on the Battle of Okinawa, a memorial hall and squares are laid out on the theme of "repose of souls, prayer and peace"; about a million people visit each year.
