Iwade, Wakayama / 根來寺
Negoro-ji Temple
The head temple of the Shingi Shingon school, with about 900 years of history, founded by Kakuban, a scholar-monk of Mt. Koya. Its "Daito", a National Treasure, is Japan's largest wooden pagoda, and the main image in the Daidenpodo, a Dainichi Nyorai, is an Important Cultural Property. The grounds cover about 3.5 million m², with cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves, and a garden designated a national place of scenic beauty with a natural waterfall and pond.
