Minobu, Yamanashi / 身延山久遠寺
Minobusan Kuonji Temple
The head temple of the Nichiren school, founded by Nichiren in the Kamakura period, and a spiritual home for his followers, with worshippers every day. The weeping cherry in the grounds is said to be 400 years old, and the site of the hermitage where Nichiren lived for nine years and the colourful maples at his mausoleum are well known. It holds the national treasure "Kempon Chakushoku Kakei Sansui-zu" and many prefectural cultural properties.
