Matsue, Shimane / 美保関灯台
Mihonoseki Lighthouse
A dignified stone lighthouse built in 1898 at Jizozaki, the eastern tip of the Shimane Peninsula, chosen as one of the "100 Most Important Historic Lighthouses of the World" and Japan's 50 lighthouses. It was the first lighthouse in Japan to be a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, and became a national Important Cultural Property in 2022. The former lighthouse keepers' quarters next to it are now the "Kanko Buffet", where you can rest looking over the Sea of Japan and, in good weather, the Oki Islands.
