Koya, Wakayama / 徳川家霊台
Tokugawa Mausoleum (Koyasan)
The mausoleum of the first shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu and the second, Hidetada, built in 1643 by the third shogun Iemitsu. Two single-storey pyramid-roofed halls stand side by side - Ieyasu's on the right and Hidetada's on the left - decorated with carvings and maki-e, the carvings showing animals, plants and gods from myth.
