Soja, Okayama / 鬼城山（鬼ノ城）
Mt. Kinojo (Kinojo Castle)
One of Japan's 100 Fine Castles: an ancient mountain fortress said to have been built by the Yamato court for national defence. Kinojo appears in no historical record, and its history remains a mystery. Surveys and restoration continue, and you can visit the sites of a corner tower and gates; the panorama from the restored West Gate is superb. Near the summit, the Soja City Kinojo Visitor Center explains the restoration and excavations, and a 2.8 km walking course follows the walls.
